Equine Sports Council Judge’s Certification Program Announced
Equine Sports Council is excited to announce that we have developed a tiered certification program for horse show Judges, ensuring they demonstrate expertise through annual credential submissions, ESC Rule Book examinations, industry involvement, and continuing education. ESC Judges will be certified annually based on their officiating experience, overall industry involvement and ability to demonstrate ongoing personal development. Applicants will attest to their officiating history and that information will be verified using publicly available data such as Saddle Horse Report’s “Judge’s Search” or horse show management software programs. Two Additional Lesson Horse Grants Awarded
Following ESC Foundation’s initial sponsorship of two lesson horses for DeVote Performance Horses in Winston Salem, NC and Trinity Farm in Clayton, IN, a gracious sponsor came forward to allow for two more lesson programs to be assisted. Suzanne Schnetzler has operated Rocking S Stables for over 20 years in Helena, Alabama. She and one assistant instructor teach an average of 75 students a week, with a growing Beginner rider segment. Her “babysitter” mount has been diagnosed with ringbone and will soon be retired at the farm. This grant will assist Suzanne in replacing him so that she can continue to introduce new people to the world of horseback riding.…

Lesson Horse Grants Awarded
ESC Foundation received over two dozen applications for our Lesson Horse Grant. Topping the list were two emerging stables that will each receive a sponsored lesson horse to add to their growing programs. Mallory Giebink of DeVote Performance Horses in Winston Salem, NC has been teaching for 15 years, and her current program has been in operation about 5 years. What started as a small 5 stall barn with 3-4 lessons a week after her regular 9-5 job, has grown to a full time job teaching 35 lesson a week, with the new addition of a covered riding arena. Applications Being Accepted for ESC Foundation’s Lesson Horse Sponsorship
Equine Sports Council Foundation is accepting applications from new and/or growing lesson programs that need an additional lesson horse. The horse will be sourced from approved rescue organizations, selected by the lesson program’s trainer/instructor, and the adoption and transportation fees will be paid by ESCF. “The lesson program might need a beginner lunge line horse, an intermediate mount that can give group lessons, or maybe something a little fancier to take to horse shows,” said Jackie Hale, ESCF Director. “Applicants will be asked to demonstrate their specific need and how an additional horse will help to further their program’s growth and success.” Applications are being accepted until December 31, 2025.…

ESC Foundation Supports Salina Charity Horse Show
Equine Sports Council Foundation is pleased to be able to provide sponsorship support for this historic horse show that is home to the American Saddle Horse Breeder’s Futurity of Kansas and Oklahoma. With the Futurity at risk if the show was cancelled, ESC Foundation partnered with area breeders to raise $2500 in sponsorship funds. The show is under new management with Kelly Smith at the helm, and she is working hard to ensure the longevity of the event. The World’s Championship Horse Show will be upon us shortly and Equine Sports Council is preparing for another successful year at the Kentucky State Fair. The ESC Mobile App has been updated and is available as a download @ https://equinesportscouncil.org/mobilehub/. You’ll find quick access to the ESC Rulebook, Medication Report Form, a Quick Reference Guide for Common Medications and the searchable Medication Database. Pony Measurements will take place at the WCHS on Saturday afternoon 8/16 at 1pm and Sunday morning 8/17 at 9am at the equine entrance to the North Wing. A New Beginning for the Bill Wise American Saddlebred Sweepstakes Program
Administration of the Bill Wise American Saddlebred Sweepstakes has officially been transferred from the American Saddlebred Horse and Breeder’s Association to Equine Sports Council Foundation. To mark this new beginning, ESC Foundation is pleased to announce a new website designed to honor the history of the Sweepstakes and the vision of the late Bill Wise, as well as to promote the program. Equine Sports Council Foundation Named Administrator of the Bill Wise Saddlebred Sweepstakes
The Bill Wise Saddlebred Sweepstakes program welcomes Equine Sports Council Foundation as administrator of the program for 2025. Equine Sports Council Foundation is a 501(c)(3) whose mission is to educate, raise awareness, and advocate for the show horse industry. For 2025, the Sweepstakes classes are to be held at the following horse shows: Each of the classes will be conducted under the governing rules set by each of the three respective horse shows. The Sweepstakes Committee is chaired by James Nichols and members include Joan Lurie, Anna Marie Knipp, Anne Neil and Raymond Shively. Equine Sports Council Hosts Riding Instructor’s Workshop in Nashville, TN
Over 60 Instructors from across the United States and Canada met in Nashville, TN January 14 – 16 for 3 days of networking and learning, organized and hosted by Equine Sports Council. The Workshop started with a Welcome Reception at Teddy’s Tavern, sponsored by ESC and the Monarch Championship Horse Show. Attendees enjoyed food, drink, live entertainment and icebreaker games. On Monday morning, seminar topics included Marketing, Legal and Insurance, followed by interactive Group Discussions that afternoon. Tuesday morning featured an invigorating keynote address by Drew Epperson of Epperson Coaching, which was followed by a trip to Milestone Stables for a hands-on demonstration of teaching techniques and tips for both…

ESC Gives Grant to Monarch National Championship
As part of Equine Sports Council ongoing give back program the Monarch National Championship was awarded a $2500 grant at the 2022 annual UPHA Convention in Orlando, Florida. All horse shows in the ESC Horse Show Network receive annual marketing grants, along with access to officials liability insurance, legal protections and a grievance process. “All of us at Monarch wish to express our gratitude to the Equine Sports Council for their generous grant of $2500, presented during the UPHA National Conference in Orlando!“
