Equine Sports Council

Home

Equine Sports Council (ESC) is a non-member, not-for-profit horse show sanctioning network. Formed in 2019, ESC has given back over $75,000 in grants and class sponsorships to its Network of horse shows. ESC sanctions events from one-day tournaments to elite horse shows such as the Monarch National Championship, host of the National Pleasure Equitation Olympics, Mane Event Horse Show and host of the National Good Hands Finals, and the KY State Fair World’s Championship Horse Show.

Equine Sports Council Foundation (ESCF) is the educational non-profit 501(c)(3) organization of ESC. The ESC Foundation’s mission is to educate, raise awareness, and advocate for the trotting breed show horse industry. The ESC Foundation is funded by donations from ESC Corporation and private individuals.

Welfare & Safety
Horse shows within ESC’s network are committed to providing a competition environment that promotes good sportsmanship, fair competition, and the highest standards of horsemanship. The welfare of the horse and the safety of exhibitors are paramount.

Annual Grants to Shows
All shows in the Equine Sports Council Network receive an annual marketing grant equal to 25% of the Sanctioning Fees collected. $25,000 in payouts earned by shows in 2025 are scheduled for distribution in March 2026.

Never a Membership Fee
ESC is a non-member organization. Horse shows simply subscribe to Equine Sports Council’s sanctioning service, which allows for use of the ESC Rule Book, Class and Judging Specifications and an Independent Grievance and Hearing Process. Shows may elect to do drug testing through ESC’s ISO and ARCI certified lab.

Officials Liability Insurance
ESC Certified Officials receive a $6M Official’s Liability Insurance policy from the National Association of Sports Officials.

ESC Rulebook

This document is licensed per single use to shows that subscribe to the ESC Network, collect sanctioning fees, and hire ESC certified officials.

Controlled Medications

ESC takes a common sense efficacy based approach to therapeutic medication use. We continually research to develop a Controlled Medication policy that ensures the health of our equine partners while protecting against performance enhancing substances.
