Drug interactions
A single competition dose of Clenbuterol cannot exceed 0.5 mL/100 LBS. A 72 hour WD is required for any single dosing greater than 0.5 mL/100lbs, **Severely Contraindicated if used with Albuteral or Dexamethasone at which time 72 hour WD is required. **Severely Contraindicated if used with Albuteral or Dexamethasone at which time 72 hour WD is required.
SEVERE CONTRAINDICATION - when used with Albuteral. Increases effecacy significantly when used with Dexamethasone - often times Dex is used with Clenbuteral to overcome the resistancy developed by recurring use of Clenbuterol which is a prescription medication primarily used in veterinary medicine to treat horses suffering from airway obstructions, such as Recurrent Airway Obstruction (RAO)—commonly known as "heaves" or asthma. The clinical breakdown regarding its half-life, administration, and dosing schedule is detailed below.1. Half-Life in HorsesThe elimination half-life of clenbuterol in horses depends slightly on how it is given and whether it is a single dose or repeated use. Oral Administration: Following repeated oral doses, the plasma elimination half-life is typically between 7 and 13 hours (with some studies showing up to 21 hours for total elimination).Intravenous (IV) Administration: Following a single IV injection, the half-life is slightly shorter, averaging around 9 hours. Note on Equine Regulatory Testing: While the active therapeutic effects fade within hours, clenbuterol can remain detectable in a horse’s urine for up to 11 to 12 days after the final dose. Because it is highly regulated in competitive equine sports, strict withdrawal guidelines must be followed.2. Administration MethodClenbuterol is most commonly administered orally in the form of a clear, viscous liquid syrup (the most prominent brand name being Ventipulmin). Directly or via Feed: The syrup is administered twice daily, either drawn up into a syringe and given directly into the horse's mouth, or topically added directly onto the grain portion of their feed. Injectable Forms: Though much less common for daily maintenance, intravenous or parenteral (injectable) forms exist and are managed strictly by veterinarians for acute episodes.3. Standard Dosing ScheduleVeterinarians use a strict step-wise dosing schedule. Treatment always starts at the lowest effective baseline dose. If the horse does not show clinical improvement after 3 days, the dosage is incrementally increased up to a maximum ceiling. The standard starting dose is 0.8 micrograms per kilogram ($\mu\text{g/kg}$) of body weight, administered twice daily (every 12 hours). At that point, the drug is withdrawn to see if the airway obstruction symptoms recur. Potential Side EffectsWhen starting clenbuterol or raising the dose, horses frequently exhibit mild, transient side effects typical of beta-2 agonists. These include increased heart rate (tachycardia), muscle tremors, sweating (particularly around the neck), and mild restlessness. These side effects usually subside within a few days as the horse's system acclimates.Clenbuterol (often marketed as Ventipulmin) is a \(\beta _{2}\)-agonist used as a bronchodilator in horses. Its drug interactions are primarily centered on other medications that affect the cardiovascular or nervous systems, as clenbuterol can increase heart rate and cause excitability. Clenbuterol should not be used with Dexamethasone as this has performance enhancing effects, At 12 withdraw point concentration levels are <1 ng/mL
