ESC Officials & Registering Credentials
The ESC Rule Book vests play call authority in Judges, Stewards, and ESC Show Commissioners, collectively referred to as ESC Show Officials. Judges and Stewards possess the authority to disqualify an individual for rule infractions, including the forfeiture of ribbons and prize monies. Disqualification by the three-person ESC Show Commission necessitates a unanimous decision.
Prior to the commencement of all ESC-sanctioned shows, the show officials must be announced, and their names must be posted in the show office. All officials are required to register their credentials with ESC prior to the show’s commencement. All ESC Registered Officials are afforded $6 million in officials liability insurance through the National Association of Sports Officials. Judges at ESC-sanctioned events are required to secure complimentary insurance. Stewards and Show Commissioners are eligible to purchase this insurance at a discounted rate.
ESC presently recognizes licensed or previously licensed officials from a majority of governing or sanctioning bodies. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in officiating within the Saddlebred, Hackney, Morgan, American Dutch Harness, Roadster, and Saddle Seat Equitation disciplines, as well as familiarity with Hunter Jumper disciplines. To register as an official, please consult the ESC Rule Book and be prepared to furnish copies of your license, government identification, contact information, a functional email address, and a recent photograph for your ESC Official Identification. Contact ESC at Info@EquineSportsCouncil.org or by calling 1-855-Equine1 to finalize the intake process. Please allow 7-10 business days for the completion of the approval process.
