OR 3.0 Tack and Apparel Working tack is encouraged. Tack with silver accents is discouraged, but not cause for elimination. Western saddles are mandatory. Split or Rommel reins are permitted with only one hand on the reins (exception: horses four years old or younger may be shown in a snaffle bit with two hands). For split reins, the rider may have their index finger between the reins. For Rommel reins, no fingers between the reins. Hands must not be changed unless negotiating an obstacle. Braiding or banding of manes, switches and tail extensions are not permissible. Riders are to wear a long-sleeved shirt with collar, chaps or chinks, cowboy hat or helmet, and boots.
